New PhD Position Available


  • The Group has been awarded a PhD Studentship

    High calibre prospective PhD students are invited to apply for a PhD studentship, commencing October 2006, that has recently been awarded to the group. The project area will be in the Surface Science section of the group

PhD Completion!


  • Mike Casford finishes his PhD studies

    Mike is now proudly walking around ready to submit his final bound thesis copies to the Board of Graduate Studies and is hoping to graduate on November 12th. Fortunately, Mike will not be leaving the group as he has begun postdoctoral research in collaboration with BP Castrol.

    "Sum Frequency Generation from Langmuir-Blodgett Multilayer Films on Metal and Dielectric Substrates" is the feature article of this issue of J. Phys. Chem. B. and has arisen from our productive collaborations with the Catalysis Research Center of Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan, and the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, University of Maine, USA. The cover art for this issue is also from the paper.



New Group Member!


  • Katie Smith joins the PBD Group

    We're all very excited to have Katie join the Sum Frequency Section of the group. Katie is a Part III Student and will be studying polymer-surfactant interactions using a combination of techniques, including ATR-FTIR, Langmuir-Blodgett trough experiments and Sum Frequency Spectroscopy.
