How to Find Us

Here is your indispensible guide to finding Cambridge and the chemistry department. If you're coming by car don't forget to tell us so that we can arrange a car parking space. On arrival please contact reception.

  • Overview
Cambridge can be easily reached by car, rail or coach (air as well if you want to brave the tiny Cambridge Airport, although you can easily get a train or coach to the city from London Stansted). Directions for all three transport methods are provided below but an annotated map of the local Cambridge area may also be helpful.

  • By Car
Take the M11 to Junction 12 (sign posted Sandy) and then the A603 towards Cambridge. After a mile or so the road will bend sharply left through traffic lights. Turn right at the next roundabout (with Shell Garage) and drive across the Fen Causeway. Turn left at the first mini rounabout and then right at the second. This brings you into Lensfield Road. The Department is just on the right after the Spread Eagle pub. Drive towards the barrier, and when the light is green, into the car park. Don't forget to check the RAC website for possible Traffic Problems.

  • By Rail
The easiest way to get to Cambridge by Train is to go through London and catch the regular, direct service from Kings Cross or Liverpool Str. Cambridge can be accessed from the north by changing at Peterborough. (For train times and services see the National Rail Website).

To get to the Department from the Station, walk up Station Road and bear right through the lights onto Hills Road. Walk down Hills road about half a mile and turn left at the large traffic light junction into Lensfield Road (St. Mary and All Martyrs church should be on your left). The Chemistry Department is 100 yards up on your left but don't go in the back entrance, carry on walking up Lensfield Road and enter through the main entrance in the Car Park.

  • By Coach
All the major Coach companies have stops in Cambridge. From Gatwick and Heathrow Airports the Cambridge Coaches Service 78 or 79 is one of the most reliable. From Stansted Airport take either 78 or 75. National Express run regular trips to and from London.

To get to the Chemistry Department from the Coach Station walk down Emmanuel Street (don't forget the map with all this on!) to St Andrews Street (Emmanuel College should be on your left, Victoria Wine ahead). Turn left and walk up St Andrews street about 1/2 a mile. Turn right up Lensfield Road (just before St Mary and All Martyrs Church). The Chemistry Department is 100 yards up on your left but don't go in the back entrance, carry on walking up Lensfield Road and enter through the main entrance in the Car Park.

Lost? Any problems, please don't hesitate to contact us. Ring +44 (0)1223 336300 and ask for the relevant member of the group.
